Winter Training

BSA strongly encourages the continued development of individual technical skills in every soccer player through an available indoor winter season, which has two optional sessions. The indoor winter season focuses on skills development through playing indoor soccer and/or participating in other training.

It is suggested that all players take part in the Winter I session, which begins in late October and runs through the first week of January. BSA highly recommends that players on State League teams participate in both winter sessions. The Winter II session runs from mid-January through March.

These options are generally available for each of the Winter training sessions:

  • Competitive (Indoor Games and Practices) - Games and one-hour team practice sessions per week.
  • Practice Only - One-hour practice sessions per week.
  • Footskills & Goal Keeper Training - One-hour sessions per week.

Sibling discounts are available. Games are on weekends and practices/training are on weekday evenings.

About Futsal

Futsal is a soccer-like game played on a hard indoor surface (like a basketball court) and the teams are four field players and one goalkeeper.  All out of bounds are kick-ins except goal kicks, which start in the Goalkeepers hands.  The ball is also smaller than a soccer ball, but it is weighted so it does not bounce.  This will keep the ball on the ground, like we like to do outdoor, and will give great opportunities for deliberate practice in developing a player’s individual skill set.

If you have never seen or heard of futsal, check out this video to see it in action:

BSA has played futsal games during previous Winter sessions, but will be participating in indoor soccer games this season.
